Details
What AniMelo does
AniMelo lets you discover anime: trending and popular titles, the airing schedule, rankings, search, details and comments for each title, and a personal list. It shows where titles can be watched and can open other apps or websites for that. Those apps and websites have their own privacy policies.
Stored on your device
- Sign-in session: a private access code that keeps you signed in, stored encrypted.
- Preferences: for example whether you were asked about notifications, and messages you have seen.
- Unsent comment drafts: kept for up to 7 days so you don't lose them.
- Cached content: recently loaded titles and images, so the app is faster.
Clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app deletes all of this.
Sent to our servers
- Content requests: what you open, browse and search for, so the server can return it. Browsing and searching are not linked to your account.
- App details: the app's package name and version, to return content that fits your version.
- Technical logs: like any website, our servers receive your IP address and device information. They are used only for security, abuse prevention (including rate limits) and fixing problems, and kept only as long as needed for that.
Your account and Sign in with Google
You can browse AniMelo and read comments without an account. An account is needed for My List, new-episode alerts and taking part in comments. Accounts use Sign in with Google: Google shares your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID. We never get your Google password.
- My List: the anime you save, the same on every device you sign in on.
- Settings: which alerts you want, and whether adult (R+) anime is shown.
- Alerts: your notification list and which alerts you have read.
- Devices: for each signed-in device, its model name, app version, push token and when it was last used.
Comments
When you post a comment or reply, your name and Google profile picture are shown with it to everyone using AniMelo. Your email address is never shown.
- Stored: your comments and replies, the GIFs you add, your likes and dislikes, and your reports of other comments.
- GIFs: GIF search goes through our servers, so GIPHY gets your search words but not your account or IP address. GIF images load from GIPHY, which sees your IP address like any image host.
- Moderation: we review reported comments. Comments that break the Community guidelines can be removed, and accounts can be blocked from commenting.
- Deleting a comment removes its text and GIF. If others replied, it stays as "Deleted" so their replies stay readable.
Help and feedback
When you send feedback from the app (Account, then Help & feedback), only you and the AniMelo team can see it. It is never shown to other users.
- What we store: your messages and our answers, the kind of feedback you picked, the anime or payment it is about when you add one, and the screenshots you attach.
- Device info: when the switch "Include device info" is on (you can turn it off before sending): the app version, Android version, phone maker and model, language and time zone. Nothing else about your phone.
- Screenshots: checked for viruses, then saved again as a new image, which removes hidden data such as location. Only you and our team can open them.
- Why: to understand the problem or idea, answer you in the app, and fix what is wrong.
- How long: as long as your account exists. Deleting your account deletes your feedback and screenshots.
Premium and payments
Premium is an optional paid plan that removes ads (see the Premium terms). Payments are made and processed by PayPal: you pay on PayPal's pages, and we never see your card or bank details. PayPal handles your payment under its own privacy policy.
- What we store: your plan and its dates, PayPal's ids for your subscription or order and your payments, your PayPal payer ID and the email address of your PayPal account, and each payment's amount, PayPal fee, date and any refund.
- Why: to turn Premium on and off at the right time, to cancel or refund when you ask, to answer PayPal cases about a payment, and for our accounting.
- The player: when you open an episode while signed in, AniMelo gives the player a signed code with your account number, so it can tell whether you have Premium and skip its ads. Nothing else about you is passed on.
- After you delete your account: a plan that renews is cancelled, and payment records are kept for accounting and tax law, no longer linked to an account.
Push notifications
AniMelo uses Firebase Cloud Messaging, a Google service, to send notifications such as new episodes of popular titles. Your device gets a push token from Google. When you are signed in, the token is linked to your account so alerts meant for you reach your devices: new episodes from My List, and replies and reactions to your comments. Turn notifications off at any time in the app's alert settings or your device's settings.
No ads, no tracking
AniMelo shows no ads and does not use advertising IDs, analytics or crash reporting services. The player that plays episodes is a separate app and shows ads, unless you have Premium.
Sharing
We do not sell your information. It is processed only by the services needed to run AniMelo:
- Our hosting providers, which run our servers and storage.
- Google: Sign in with Google and Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- GIPHY: GIF search and GIF images in comments.
- PayPal: Premium payments, refunds and payment cases.
We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Delete your account
Delete your account and its data at any time, in the app (Account, then Delete account) or by email. Deleting removes your name, email address, picture, Google account ID, My List, alerts, settings, signed-in devices, likes, dislikes, reports, feedback and screenshots at once, permanently. Your comments lose their text, GIF and link to you; where others replied they stay as "Deleted". A Premium plan that renews is cancelled. Only Premium payment records are kept, for accounting and tax law, no longer linked to an account.
Security
Everything between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Sign-in sessions are stored encrypted on your device and only as a one-way hash on our servers.
Children
AniMelo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
